Anne Hathaway initially refused to sing because she thought it would be “cheesy”
Anne Hathaway has a face that many people recognize. She has been seen in many films over the years including Dark Waters, Don Jon, The devil wears Prada, and Passengers, as well as several appearances on television shows. She is a very versatile actress who can appear on a variety of film types, from fairy tales to adult dramas and comedies.
Oddly enough, one of the most important parts of the movie is what Hathaway didn’t want to do. She didn’t want to sing.
The magic behind ‘Ella Enchanted’
Ella, delighted is a film that combines fairy tales and modern humor. When Ella is a baby, she is visited by her fairy godmother, Lucinda (played by Vivica A. Fox). His enchantment forces him to do as he is told. What may have been designed to mean good, ends up being a curse after Ella’s mother dies, and she is sent to live with tough Lady Olga (played by Joanne Lumley). It’s a twist of fate that leads Ella to seek out her fairy godmother in the hope of breaking her spell. Her traveling companion is none other than Prince Charmont (Hugh Dancy) who ultimately wins the heart of the beautiful young girl.
Ella, delighted was a success with both critics and the public. Not just for the appeal of the gripping story, but for the soundtrack which hardly made it to the big screen. Especially the songs Ain’t gonna break my heart(duet with Jesse McCartney), You make me wanna dance and Someone to love. The three songs Hathaway herself sang during the movie.
The beauty of Anne Hathaway songs
Hathaway’s songs in the movie are all catchy and fun to listen to. It makes it surprising to learn that she really hated the idea of being the one to sing them. However, it’s not that she doesn’t like to sing. She worried about how people would see her if she sang.
She would have said LiveAbout.com why she initially refused to do it saying, “I love singing, and it’s something that I really love to do, but I didn’t want it to sound obnoxious in the movie. There have been times that I’ve seen actors do it, where all of a sudden the character has nothing to do with a good voice, and they burst that Aretha Franklin voice against a full orchestration. . I’m like “Come on, this is completely out of date and amazing.”
She didn’t want to be one of those she considered cheesy, but fans are really happy she did. However, with her strong opinion on why she wouldn’t sing, we have to ask ourselves what made her change her mind?
It’s a little more complicated, but in layman’s terms, the right song has been found. The catch was, Hathaway felt it should be sung under Ella’s name, hesitating at first, then growing louder.
After Ella Enchanted: pure magic for Hathaway
Few actresses would be able to follow in Hathaway’s footsteps. She has played in many movies and tv shows for all age groups.
Less than a year later Ella, delighted, the fairy tale, she won an Oscar for the film Wretched. It tells the story of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a man who broke his parole and was being chased by ruthless police. He agrees to take care of Hathaway’s daughter after Hathaway’s death.
