“Being the Ricardos”: when is it coming out? What is it about?

After all the criticism regarding Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball, the first official trailer for “Being the Ricardos” has arrived.

We don’t see much of Kidman in the trailer – other than a brief moment where she seems to piece together the iconic grape-trampling scene from the “I Love Lucy” episode “Lucy’s Italian Movie”.

Instead, it’s Kidman’s storytelling as Ball that drives the majority of the trailer.

“You know I did this show so Desi and I could be together,” she said at one point. “I had no idea it was going to be a success.”

Overall, the trailer – which came out just days after “I Love Lucy’s” 70th anniversary – focuses more on the behind-the-scenes moments than the show itself.

“Everyone thinks we’re doing the ‘I Love Lucy’ series again, and we’re not at all,” Kidman said previously, according to Deseret News. “It’s about Lucy and Desi, their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually.

“Being the Ricardos” – which also stars Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz – chronicles a tumultuous week of production of “I Love Lucy” in September 1952, when the crew worked to bring the episode “Fred to life. and Ethel Fight “, Weekly entertainment reported. For five days, Ball and Arnaz face three major behind-the-scenes crises that could damage their careers and marriage, including the House of Un-American Activities Committee’s investigation into Ball.

Aaron Sorkin, the writer and director of “Being the Ricardos,” said Weekly entertainment that although all three crises did occur, he made the creative choice to place them all within the short span of a week of production.

“It’s pretty clear in the movie that ‘I Love Lucy’ could have been canceled at any point, and Lucy’s and Desi’s careers would have been over,” Sorkin said. “If you can show the audience what a character wants instead of telling them who the character is, you’ll do yourself a favor. The way to do that is to keep putting obstacles in front of them; the tactics they use to overcome those obstacles – this is what shows you the character.

Sorkin worked closely with Ball and Desi Arnaz’s daughter Lucie Arnaz to bring justice to the legendary Hollywood couple.

“She encouraged me to really take off the gloves,” Sorkin said. Weekly entertainment. “Lucy was not an easy person. Their marriage, that of Lucy and Desi, was not the same as that of Lucy and Ricky. It was considerably more complicated. They were two people passionately in love with each other who just couldn’t make it work for some interesting reasons.

Lucie Arnaz praised the film and, in particular, Kidman’s portrayal of Ball.

“Nicole Kidman has become the soul of my mother,” she said, according to ABC News. “She crawled into her head… she cared very deeply about that part.” This shows. And I believed everything she said.

“Being the Ricardos” hits theaters on December 10 and on Amazon Prime Video on December 21.
