Famous personalities who have talked about living with a stutter

There are many famous personalities like Elvis Presley, Lewis Carroll, Emily Blunt and Samuel L. Jackson who did not let their stuttering disability get in the way of their work.

INTERNATIONAL BEGAGE AWARENESS DAY 2022: About 1% of the world’s population suffers from stuttering. In an effort to raise awareness about stuttering, October 22 was declared International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) in 1998. This day is observed to educate people about the complexity of the disorder, work towards the prevention of stuttering among children and let people know that help and resources are available.

The day also supports research to find the causes of stuttering. There are many famous personalities like Elvis Presley, Lewis Carroll, Emily Blunt and Samuel L. Jackson who did not let their stuttering disability get in the way of their work. They also contributed enough for people who stutter.

On this year’s International Stuttering Awareness Day, take a look at some of the famous people who stutter:

  1. Hrithik Roshan
    Bollywood star actor Hrithik Roshan has always spoken openly about his stutter and how he underwent speech therapy to become fluent. Apparently, he still practices speech therapy. He has also made a generous donation to help build the Audio and Speech Therapy Wing at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, India.
  2. Nicole Kidman
    She is the award-winning Hollywood actress who is famous for her stellar performances in Rabbit Hole and Batman Forever. She revealed that she was extremely shy and how she used to stutter as a child which she gradually overcame. She continues to urge and inspire the stuttering community not to run away from their fears.
  3. Rowan Atkinson
    The man is famous for his character Mr Bean who is still loved by children and elders. His stutter made headlines in The Epoch Times, “Rowan ‘Mr. Bean’ Atkinson has a speech impediment that nearly cost him his career. He later shared that his stutter is not permanent.
  4. US President Joe Biden
    US President Joe Biden has the problem of stuttering. He had shared that stuttering has nothing to do with IQ. In fact, it is the only disability that people still make fun of and humiliate others.
  5. Ed Sheeran
    The singer of famous songs like Shape of You, Perfect and Photograph dealt with stuttering growing up. He had trouble expressing himself properly. He tried various speech therapies to help him with his stuttering and ultimately it was music that really helped him.
