Ford Maverick shrugs me off – Eminetra
The word of this week is Maverick.
Ford Maverick in 2022 received a lot of coverage on this site and elsewhere, and was a hot topic on Twitter, and every automotive journalist I know has done it, including himself. I’m nervous to find the best jokes to reference Upper gun Or a ’90s western comedy starring Mel Gibson and James Garner (by the way, both films are excellent).
I want to be excited about this track. I should be excited about this trail. Still, my general feelings about it can be summed up in a shrugging gif.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the truck will go bad by spec. It is far from that. I was impressed with the specs and the prices, and I like the way it looks, and I think the truck will drive well. Ford seems to have done a great job. And there’s no doubt that Maverick will be a hot seller.
Also, I don’t generally object to compact trucks. I think there was a gap in the market. Ford and Hyundai get there first – Hyundai and the next Santa Cruz. I am delighted to see other manufacturers follow.
I suspect that my indifference is linked to my own prejudices and interests. I’m more of a sports car (sedan, coupe, hatchback and other body style) than a pickup. And I live in a neighborhood of Chicago that is not suitable for trucks and I’m starting out – if I was still living in the suburbs, maybe I would be crazier about trucks. After visiting my family on the farm, I start playing on the truck with a consumer configurator.
There is always a danger in turning a personal preference into an opinion piece and I flirt with it, I know that. But I suspect I’m in a strange minority here. Most people seem to like Maverick. Some hate it. Others point out that today’s “compact” trucks are larger than older trucks, which helps gauge the inflated size of the industry as a whole.
The more you think about it, the more you understand why you are indifferent and it is beyond your personal hobby. Personal preferences are expressed better in tweets than in posts. My real problem isn’t that Maverick doesn’t turn me on because sports cars are likely to run my engine, but these days only trucks seem really exciting. And maybe A few EV like Mach-E.
Please think about it. What has been the most exciting announcement in recent years? Ford F-150, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mach-E and now Maverick. Hyundai Santa Cruz. Corvette. Maybe a citizen and a Land Rover Defender? Probably the next Nissan Z which was just announced in August.
Some of them are linked to COVID. Many have to do with the market shifting into boring but useful crossovers and the fact that the reality and regulations of the market make it difficult for automakers to justify the âfunâ business cases of cars and trucks. Make.
Maybe Maverick is a big deal on its own, independent of the market and I’m just off base here. But at least some of the excitement surrounding Maverick must shake the feeling that it’s not because it shows the resurgence of light trucks, or because it’s impressive on paper. Of course, both are true, but I think the excitement is that there aren’t a lot of “fun” things. Therefore, instead focus on well-made vehicles that exist for practical purposes.
I understand why some consumers (those who actually need / use these trucks) are getting excited. Affordable trucks that can make it easier for you or your hobby don’t sneeze.
I don’t think you should get excited about Maverick. On the contrary, I think it’s a little sad that there aren’t other cars that are exciting at the moment.
Hey, at least I can geek another Ford soon. You need to find a freshly squeezed OJ reference.
Still, the thrilling concept and relative lack of enthusiastic enthusiast cars may account for my indifference rather than the haphazard relationship with the truck.
Or I’m justâ¦ a heretic.
