March Events Bring Flowers and Draw Attention to Women – Times Square Chronicles

It’s time to celebrate the fairer sex with Women’s History Month. Events in March include the New York City Winter Wine & Food Festival, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Orchid Show, and Macy’s Flower Show. Elton John, Billy Joel, Pearl Jam and Ben Platt are all in concert. On Broadway, the stars shine with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick in Square SuiteBilly Crystal in Mr Saturday nightHugh Jackman and Sutton Foster in The music manand Jesse Williams, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Patrick Adams in take me out. In sports, Knicks and Nets basketball is underway, as are the NY Rangers and Islanders hockey seasons, and NYCFC kicks off at Yankee Stadium.

Until 5/1: The Orchid Show. The dazzling floral creations of Jeff Leatham, famed artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris and floral designer to the stars, have returned for The orchid showis 19th grade. Towers of orange, yellow and green orchids, undulating white fields and purple plumes overhead, along with artistic embellishments and a kaleidoscopic tunnel of lights, will captivate visitors. Kaleidoscope by Jeff Leatham is set to be NYBG’s most popular Orchid show again.

3/1: A star-studded line-up will celebrate the legendary singer, songwriter, activist and actor’s 95th birthday Harry Belafonte At the mayor.

3/4 -13: New York International Children’s Film Festival

3/6: Ben Platt @ GMS

3/8: Sara Bareilles (Broadway composer Waitress), Nkeki Obi-Melekwe (Tina Turner of Tina) and Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland, Waitress) perform at 2nd Annual International Women’s Day Benefit Concert. This event raises funds to train 1 million underfunded young women through the Girls With Impact business and leadership academy.

3/9: National Meatball Day

3/13: Summer time time to lose an hour but gain more daylight.

3/17: St. Patrick’s Day At New York. From the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to St. Patrick’s Cathedral to the world’s greatest pub crawl. It’s a day to bring out the green.

Pipers Red Hot Chili

3/17: Red Hot Chili Pipers at the Sony room. Bagpipes with attitude. Drums with a Scottish accent. A flamboyant rock band and a show so hot it carries its own health warning!

3/21: Broadway by year will celebrate the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the heights, hamilton), Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen), Bobby Lopez with Jeff Marx and others (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q), and much more at the town hall.

3/24: Billy Joel @MSG

3/24-27: Affordable Art Fair at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea, where you can see contemporary works ranging in price from $100 to $10,000.

28/03: The opening of Plaza Suite with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

3/30: Pearl Jam @ GMS
