“Nine Perfect Strangers”: An Exclusive Look At Nicole Kidman’s Next Mystery
TV fans addicted to the twists and turns of Big little lies or The defeat will be delighted to know that there is a new mystery on the horizon, just waiting to suck them up. Nine Perfect Strangers reunites David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman, and author Liane Moriarty for a whole new surprising adventure, this time set in Kidman and Moriarty’s home country, Australia. But even if you think you know what to expect from this designer trio, Kelley cautioned Vanity Fair to rethink: âThis one is a little wild.
Moriarty’s book Nine Perfect Strangers takes place in a remote, upscale health and wellness resort that promises healing and transformation for nine stressed city dwellers. Overseeing their journey is enigmatic and possibly dangerous, Station Manager Masha, played with unsettling serenity by Kidman. The cast is full of familiar faces from television and film, including Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Regina Hall, Bobby Cannavale, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg, Manny Jacinto, Asher Keddie, Grace Van Patten, and Tiffany Boone. At the center of the novel and the show is Frances, a successful writer seeking advice in her personal life, played by Melissa McCarthy.
As Masha and Frances embark on this emotional and chaotic journey, Kidman and McCarthy have plenty of opportunities to trigger each other. âThey are both extremely funny, touching and unpredictable,â Kelley said. âCharacters that surprise, charm and sometimes shock, interpreted by two incredibly gifted performers. “
Masha, her team, and these nine âperfectâ strangers face off in a retreat filled with experimental therapies that spur the imagination. âOne might be inclined to dismiss the construction as too absurd, but that would be a mistake,â Kelley said. âThe series is ultimately rooted in human pathologies, and what seems ridiculous becomes very real. The goal was to provide a fun ride that resonates emotionally. A hoot with a snort hunter.
