Not quite ready for summer? This “Dead Hang” workout will have you shredding in no time

This caught our attention for several reasons: First of all, it is a workout that is a bit out of the ordinary, as it involves the intuitive use of a training partner. Second, it sounds pretty darn tough, but definitely has some serious benefits for your whole body, and could be an exercise that will speed you up your path to thirst trap status.

Aubrey’s training involves hanging from a bar, also known as dead blocking. These help strengthen your shoulders, upper back, core, forearms, and grip strength, and are a movement used to work your way into a perfect pull-up. They can also help you stretch your lats in your back, when performing front squats.

But that’s not all. While suspended from the bar, Aubrey and his training partner grab a medicine ball between their legs and pass it towards each other, catching it in their legs each time. It shouldn’t take us to say how much core strength it takes, not only to hang on the bar without falling, but also to hold the ball between your legs – working your quads and hamstrings – and then use your core to kick your legs forward and release the ball.
