Photos of Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball ignites casting debate
Nicole Kidman is good about her character as Lucille Ball and the first photos of “Being the Ricardos” are drawing mixed reviews from fans.
The 53-year-old actress was pictured on set in Los Angeles alongside her co-star Javier Bardem, who plays Desi Arnaz and many fans took to social media to share their displeasure with Kidman’s casting in as the star of “I Love Lucy”.
“They are so wrong about the roles! I don’t have that casting choice,” wrote one person who commented on the Instagram photos posted by Just Jared, while another added: “I love her but she looks nothing like Lucy. “
“Literally everyone in the world looks more like lucille ball,” added a fan who replied to an image of Kidman posted on Twitter.

“Debra Messing should be Lucille Ball,” wrote one commentator on Instagram, adding, “Brutal casting. Nicole has no sense of humor.”

Many others have said the cast doesn’t matter as long as Kidman’s performance remains relevant in the film about the couple’s turbulent marriage.
“I mean, Nicole Kidman doesn’t have to look like Lucille Ball for her to do a good job in this role,” mentionned a fan. “And there’s really no reason to pretend they’re alike.”
“I’m really excited about this!” wrote another fan. “They look good.”

In February, director Aaron Sorkin defended the film’s cast in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, telling fans not to worry until the final product hits the screen.
“I think people thought we picked them like Lucy and Ricky Ricardo,” Sorkin said. “The film takes place during a week of production of ‘I Love Lucy’ – a Monday table played on Friday audience taping, with a whole bunch of long flashbacks that tell the story that brought us here – and because there is a table read, there are rehearsals and then there is a recording night, we see times when they are Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. “
