Russell Crowe’s Zeus could introduce Hercules to the MCU

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Marvel brain movie. With shows like WandaVision and The Flask and the Winter Soldier worrying us and the constant delays in movies, the next MCU movie roster has felt more and more distant.

But things are happening behind the scenes, as we all know thanks to the plethora of photos shared by Marvel stars on Instagram. Most recently, Russell Crowe revealed he will be playing Zeus in the upcoming movie. Thor: love and thunder.

While Marvel has yet to confirm it, Crowe’s comments were pretty clear. He said, “I’m going to get on my bike and go up to the Disney-Fox studios, and around 9:15 am I’ll be Zeus. That’s for Thor. This is my last day of Zeus-ing and I will be enjoying it. “

With Crowe’s role all but solidified, the inclusion of Zeus opens up a huge possibility for the future of the Marvel films using their roster of characters based on the Greek gods. Including, of course, Zeus’ son, Hercules.

The Marvel Comics version of Zeus, and indeed the rest of their mythology-based characters, is mostly based on that of Greek legends, but with a few additional superheroes zhuzh. He is one of the Olympians – the human-like beings who come from the Olympian dimension (rather than the mountain).

As in the myth, he is the god of heavens, sky, time and can strike people with lightning bolts. And just like in the myth, Zeus is a total horndog.

He has a plethora of affairs with various wives, goddesses, and mortals, which leads to an equally large number of descendants including Hercules. The comic book iteration of Hercules comes across as a fun-loving demigod who enjoys brutal housing with villains and sometimes other superheroes.

He has the powers you would expect from a god, including superhuman strength, durability, speed, reflexes, stamina, and stamina. But the most relevant for the whole of Zeus-inThor4 thing, he’s been established to be a match for Thor himself and wields a golden adamantine mace that is of equal durability to that of Thor Mjolnir.

Zeus is also an eternal member of the Avengers, which means that if Marvel were looking for a Thor-like character for their next team, Zeus could be. However, we doubt that Zeus will replace Thor entirely as Chris Hemsworth has expressed his desire to play Thor for as long as possible.

It’s not only his super divine status that makes him worthy of inclusion in future Marvel films, but also the addition of a new villain to the work: Gorr the God Butcher. We know he’ll be played by Christian Bale and from his name we know what it’s all about: slaughtering gods.

The problem is, there aren’t many gods left in the Marvel world for Gorr to be a butcher. Most of Asgard has been wiped out, and in order for Gorr to truly live up to his name, he will need enemies.

Now that Zeus has joined the ranks, it seems even more likely that other God-based Marvel characters will start appearing in the MCU. And if you have Zeus, it makes sense – at least possibly – to include one of his most famous descendants.

Thor: love and thunder has a release date of May 6, 2022.
