The shooting of the film “Bandit” invades the city center of Valdosta
VALDOSTA, Georgia (WALB) – A film shoot is taking place this week in downtown Valdosta. Filming began on Tuesday, taking many by surprise.
This is the first time in a long time that film crews have come to town.
“Bandit” is based on a novel called “The Flying Bandit”. This is the true story of an American criminal in Canada who robbed banks and stole jewelry while in disguise.
Mel Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Elisha Cuthbert play the lead roles. Unfortunately, WALB news cameras did not spot them on Tuesday.
Part of the film was also shot in Thomasville.
The film’s production team have said they will be in Valdosta until next Thursday. Running Tuesday through Saturday, they say about 50 crew members are here.
As Jennifer Morejon from WALB were walking downtown, some companies told me they didn’t know what was going on.
A few visitors to downtown say it’s exciting for the area.
“I feel like it’s pretty cool and a new experience,” said Madi Lee, who lives in the area.
“Exciting, exciting, downtown has really intensified. The weather is nice here now. They should raise awareness downtown more and that way people here can come and see the beauty that is there, you know, ”said Lindsy Thompson, who also lives in the area.
As you drive through downtown over the next few days, expect to see trailers, extras, random props, and people dressed “in another era.”
Production crews currently need vehicles and trucks from the late 1970s to early 1980s.
If you have one and would like to participate, send an email to [email protected].
Spectators are welcome to watch but are asked to respect the workspace, watch from a distance and not take photos while the cameras are rolling.
There will also be road closures during filming hours. Some vehicles could be delayed, so drive carefully.
